Parents with babies usually spend most of their time taking care of their little one and have little time left to do things like going to the cinema, without having to arrange a babysitter. For all parents in The Netherlands cinemum now offers an alternative solution, so you can “have your cake and eat it too“. There are a couple of cities in The Netherlands that offer cinemum. Check out the website www.cinemum.nl (which is also available partly in English) and look for a location near you.
Apparently cinemum is a Scandinavian concept, where something like this exists for over 15 years now! The information on the cinemum website reads that countries such as The United Kingdom, Australia, Canada and Brazil also have a similar offer for parents. As far as I know, this concept is pretty ‘new’ to The Netherlands and I’m very excited about it!
Parents of babies (until the age of 12 months) can enjoy the latest movie releases during the special screenings. All facilities you need to take care of your baby will be there, so you can change a nappy, feed your baby, while still being out at the movies. The lights will be dimmed (and not turned all the way down as during a regular movie). Also the volume of the sound in the cinema will be adjusted so it’s not too loud for those tiny baby ears.
You don’t need to worry if your baby cries, since the other people in the cinema will also be parents, so they will understand. If you don’t have a baby, you cannot take part in the special cinemum screenings (although partners, friends and relatives are allowed to join you). The only exception to this rule are pregnant ladies. If you have any questions, check out the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on the cinemum website. Cinemum can also be found on social media. Their Twitter account is: @cinemum and their Facebook page is: www.facebook.com/cinemum
It’s called cineMUM, but as they say: “Dad will like it too!” I love this idea and the person who came up with this deserves a HUGE compliment! If you’ve been to cinemum, I’d love to read about your experiences!
