The YTMAs? What’s that you say? And were you unaware this was even about to happen? That’s not so strange, because this year YouTube is organizing the FIRST ever (annual?) YTMA show live from New York City via the internet on YouTube!
Exactly one week before the MTV European Music Awards (on the 10th of November 2013 in Amsterdam in The Netherlands), YouTube (un)intentionally tries to steal MTV‘s thunder, by hosting this worldwide music award show. Will YouTube succeed? And will it be a huge success, that will be repeated again next year and the year after that? In just one more day we will have the chance to find out for ourselves.
The casting of the YTMA votes takes place in a very modern way; using likes, retweets, plusses and shares via social media. Wondering how to cast your votes? Take a look at this video (starring one of this year’s two YTMA hosts: Reggie Watts), who explains it all.
Voting has never been easier. You just share and like the YouTube videos of the artists you like via youtube.com/musicawards or via a search for the YTMA on YouTube, and by doing so, you cast a vote every single time, and your friends help you by liking and retweeting your posts. I have to hand it to YouTube, I think it’s a brilliant idea and it makes voting so much more fun. Find out which artists were nominated this year via YouTube’s official blog. Do you know who will you be voting for?
The YTMA show will be broadcasted live from New York City on the 3rd of November via this YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/YouTube at 6pm EST time. Which is 12pm CET (midnight) in The Netherlands (for all my European readers). Scheduled live performances will feature some of music’s big names, like: Lady Gaga, Eminem, Avicii and more.
One last fun detail. YouTube offers you the chance to be part of the big night by uploading a video of yourself saying a (preselected) word. Jason Schwartzman (the other YTMA host) explains how in this video. Record the video in landscape at arm’s length with your face centered. YouTube will stitch the videos together into an announcement for the Artist of the Year Award, so you could appear in the big show in front of millions of people. The website to upload your video on to is: www.putmeintheytmas.com. Now go and like, plus, retweet and share this blog post while you’re the sharing mood. 🙂
